I remember my first year as a drill team director with mixed emotions. It was a roller coaster – a difficult
one at that! This month, we are spotlighting The Spring Hill High School Pacesetters Drill Team and the
director, Reagan Wells, who herself just completed her first year of teaching.

Reagan graduated from Texas State University with a BFA in Dance Education. As a first-year teacher,
she juggled teaching dance, pre-drill, BIM (Building Information Modeling) and the most time
consuming one – drill team. She had a lot on her plate! When asked what her biggest challenge was this
year, she replied, “The biggest challenge I have faced is learning how to manage my time and balance the
numerous responsibilities that come with the position, all while ensuring that the kids are being given the best
experience possible.” She is grateful for the network of support she receives from fellow dance teachers and
the knowledge she gained from the wonderful dance teachers that taught her.

The Spring Hill High School Pacesetters have not had an easy road since their inception in 2000. They
have experienced many leadership changes during that time. Reagan believes that “the students that make
up the current line truly exemplify what it means to be resilient.”

When asked to describe her team, Reagan shows much pride:

This past school year, our team motto was, “Give 100%, plus a sprinkle.” Staying true to that
statement, the Pacesetters have started working towards building a legacy that they are proud of. A
legacy rooted in hard work, commitment, responsibility, respect, and always going above and beyond.
The team has had many fabulous performances over the past school year… from football halftimes, to
contest, to spring show. Their performances have wowed their community and filled this director's
heart with pride! However, what I am most proud of is the team culture the girls have built. Their love
for one another is fierce and I am very blessed to get to work with them each day.

Reagan’s most rewarding experience as a first-year teacher was watching her team perform the finale of
their spring show. She says that she will never forget that moment of “seeing the joy radiate from them as
they lived the moment all their hard work paid off.” It sounds as if that joy was radiating from their
director as well, who obviously lived the team motto, “Give 100%, plus a sprinkle.”
